Brake Pads

Hawk Performance: Hawk Performance is one of the leading US manufacturers of aftermarket brake pads. They have one of the most complete lineup of pad compounds, pad shapes and offer support for many racing sanctions. We have been offering Hawk Performance for many years now and currently use their HPS pads on our daily driven Legacy 2.5GT.
StopTech: StopTech is best known for their high quality Big Brake Kits but they have recently taken the compound of the pads included with the BBK and manufactured OEM Pad shapes. This has brought a new low cost option into the brake pad market and they have been extremely popular.
Ferodo: Ferodo is a top manufacturer of track and racing compound brake pads. While they don't offer a street compound friction material, the DS2500 is considered one of the best double duty pads on the market. Whether your doing endurance racing or time attack, Ferodo has the right compound for you.
CL Brakes: CL Brakes, formerly known as Carbone Lorraine, is new in the North American automotive friction material market. Although they are not as well known they have made a splash with their sintered compounds for track day, racing and endurance applications. Some of the main features of the CL sintered pads are incredible cold bite, nearly impossible to fade, little to no bed-in required and they retain their bite in adverse weather conditions.

Street Compounds
-Hawk Performance Ceramic - Best for Long Term Daily Street Usage - Performance Ceramic is engineered to reduce brake NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), creating a quieter performing brake pad. Furthermore, the ceramic brake pad formula has a linear friction profile that allows your ABS brake system to work more effectively. With Performance Ceramic you can expect reduced brake pad wear, lower dust output levels and a rotor-friendly brake pad.
-Hawk HPS (High Performance Street) - Increased Stopping Power for the Street - The High Performance Street compound offers a higher coefficient of friction over stock brake pads and can provide you 20-40% more stopping power and higher resistance to brake fade than most standard replacement pads. Less fade means you will have a highly durable brake pad with less brake dust.
-Hawk HP Plus - AutoCross and Light Track Duty - HP Plus utilizes a unique Ferro-Carbon, high-tech friction material that was developed and manufactured for sport driving in autocross, Solo II and “track day” applications. The Ferro-Carbon formulation offers lower wear rates and higher torque values than other competitive materials. The HP+ does increase noise and dust quite a bit over stock, not recommended for daily use.
-StopTech Street Performance - Similar to HPS but with better initial bite - topTech Street Performance brake Pads are engineered to meet the demands of high performance driving while maintaining the refinement and comfort expected in everyday driving conditions. StopTech brake pads combine the benefits of premium street brake pads with aggressive friction formulas suitable for light track day and autocross use. Para-aramid composites are specially formulated to provide linear response at both cold and hot temperatures, delivering optimum stopping performance over a wide range of driving conditions.
-StopTech Posi-Quiet Semi-Metallic - Ultra Low Dust Semi-Metallic Street Pad - Available for most European models, PosiQuiet Semi Metallic pads offer bite levels similar to or greater than OEM formulas with reduced levels of noise and dust. Well suited to performance street driving under all weather conditions.
-StopTech Posi-Quiet Ceramic - Slightly more bite than semi-metallic but low dust - Available for most Japanese and domestic models, PosiQuiet Ceramic pads offer bite levels similar to or greater than OEM formulas with reduced levels of noise and dust. Well suited to performance street driving under all weather conditions.

Many of you know we do alot of stuff in terms of suspension, drivetrain and brake components. We do however offer an extensive list of performance upgrade parts for just about everything you could imagine. This is an aspect of Touge Tuning that we will be expanding upon as things progress. We recently had a customer with a 2006 STi come to us wanting to finally begin modding the car further than it's current setup which was basically stock besides the Cobb AccessPORT and Cobb Turboback. The first step was taken awhile back with a great suspension, drivetrain and small brake upgrade. The car is daily driven and as such certain parts were chosen over others.

For the suspension we started the setup with the BSF36XZ 24mm adjustable front swaybar and the BSR37XZ 24mm adjustable rear swaybar from Whiteline. To compliment these we added in a set of Kartboy STi front and rear endlinks as we know the stock pieces aren't exactly the greatest. After a few back and forths with the client we decided on the KCA359 Anti-Lift Kit Sport, KCA313 Roll Center Adjusters, W52837 Control Arm Bushings and finished off with a set of Swift Spec-R Springs. This entire setup really works amazingly well together and the owner simply put it as "This is how the car should have come from the factory!"

The the suspension in good order we moved onto tightening up the drivetrain/driveline. The stock bushings are known to wear and fatigue over time, replacing them with stiffer pieces makes a huge difference not only in how the car reacts from driver input but also gives the pilot more confidence in knowing the car is going to react a certain way. The package consisted of KSR206 Whiteline Steering Rack Bushings, Kartboy Pitch Stop Mount, Kartboy Subframe Lock Bolts, TiC Klunk Killer Comfort and TiC Transmission Crossmember Bushings. All of these pieces have a very low cost but a make a big difference. There are a few things we will look at down the road including the Group N engine and transmission mounts.

The brakes were fairly tame as the above really took a large chunk out of the budget at the time. We added in a set of Hawk HPS pads front and rear, these on the STi are similar to the OE pads in terms of stopping power but are more consistent and dust about 1000% less. A set of Techna-Fit Braided Brake Lines and ATE Typ200 fluid were used. Future upgrades will be determined based on the use of the vehicle but the brake system obviously has lots of room for improvement.

So this brings us up to date and now the goal is MOAR POWER!!
